Talking About Micro-Retail & The Power of Civic Action

PowerofCivicAction_CoverThe Inclusive Local Economies program of the Metcalf Foundation recently posted a video of their December 2015 event The Power of Civic Action, celebrating the achievements of the Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee (TPWC) in transforming their local park, RV Burgess, into a vibrant community hub. TPWC Chair Sabina Ali told their story and discussed how a small group of local women, who wanted to see change in their local park, made it happen and now boast one of the most lively parks in Toronto complete with a weekly community market, activities for children and special events.

Our very own Howard Tam was invited to speak as part of the event panel and talked about the challenges for small micro-retail vendors in Toronto. You can watch the full video here.

The event also coincided with the release of Metcalf’s report: The Power of Civic Action which documents the story of the TPWC. The full report is available here.
